Sunlight in, power bill down.
Panels on your roof absorb sunlight and turn it into DC electricity. An inverter converts that into the AC power that runs your lights, appliances and heat pumps during the day. Anything you generate and do not use is stored in a battery for the evening, or fed back to the grid.
It reduces how much you depend on an electricity retailer, protects you against rising power prices, and lowers your carbon footprint at the same time.
Most roofs work. We check before we promise anything.
Orientation and pitch matter most. North facing gives peak generation, while east to west layouts spread it across the day. We also check shading from trees and neighbouring buildings, confirm the roof structure is sound, look at the roof type, iron or tile, and measure the space you actually have.
Even where the setup is not textbook, modern system design gets good generation out of almost any property. If yours genuinely will not stack up, we will tell you that rather than sell you a system.

Ducted or high wall?
You want the whole house at one temperature, you have ceiling access, and you would rather not look at a box in every room.
You want one or two rooms done well, you are working to a tighter budget, or there is no ceiling space to run ducts through.

The gas line costs you money before you burn any.
Hot water is the cheapest thing to move off gas. Once the hob and the heating follow, the daily line charge goes with them.
Same hot water, about a third of the power.
A cylinder makes heat with an element. A heat pump moves heat in from outside instead, so it does the same job on roughly a third of the energy. It goes where your current cylinder is.
Cut the pipe and the daily charge goes with it.
Most houses come off gas one appliance at a time, which is fine, but the fixed daily charge is owed the whole time the connection is live. It only disappears when the last gas appliance does. That is usually what decides whether the job pays.
What we swap out
Califont or gas cylinder comes out, hot water heat pump goes in. Usually the first and easiest one to do.
Induction in its place. New dedicated circuit back to the board, which is our end of it.
Radiators and the gas boiler come out, ducted or high wall heat pumps take over the heating.
Once the last appliance is off, the connection is capped and the daily charge stops for good.
Every gas job is different, so these are priced after we have been to the house. The calculator above will still show you what the change is worth over a year.
The bit nobody sees is the bit that matters.
First fix, switchboards, and everything back in the wall before the gib goes on. Done so the next sparky through has nothing to swear about.

Pre-wire, switchboard, lighting design, data and the solar and heat pump provisioning while the walls are still open. Cheaper now than retrofitted later.

Most people need less charger than they think.
The car sits on the drive for about twelve hours a night. What matters is whether it is full by morning, not how fast it fills.
A 7 kW charger covers almost every household. Three phase is worth it if you have two EVs, do serious mileage, or already have three phase to the house.

What changes the price
A charger on the other side of the house, or out to a detached garage, means a longer cable run and sometimes a trench. It is usually the single biggest variable.
Older boards often have no spare capacity. We will tell you on the quote if it needs upgrading rather than finding out on the day.
Most Wellington homes are single phase, which caps you at 7 kW. Three phase opens up 22 kW but only helps if the car can take it.
A smart charger backs off when the oven and the heat pump are both running, which can save you an expensive supply upgrade.
Charging off your own roof is cheaper again.
Power you export earns you a fraction of what it costs to buy back. Putting it into the car instead is the best use of it. If solar is on the cards, say so when we quote the charger and we will size and position both together.
